c. Re-imagine and revise technical design choices during the course of a rehearsal process to enhance the story and emotional impact of a devised or scripted drama/theatre work.
Essential Questions:
How is the audience key to your show? What is special about your company? What is the purpose of effective poster design? What role do demographics play? Does social media really work?
Understanding:
How do we fill the seats in a production? Is it the name of the show, the fame of the company, the location of the venue? Yes. All of these and more contribute to your audience, but the one piece that is crucial is making sure the word gets out about your show. For that, you need to market the work in a way that garners the attention of the public, especially your target demographic. In this unit you will learn how to generate a media release/press release, and the successful tips for a great poster.

You will generate a media/press release and a poster for This is a Test (The one act play used in the set design and lighting unit).
Individual work progress will also contribute to Formative assessment.
Activities for ALL students:
Activity 1: Students will read This is a Test to renew their knowledge of the piece. They will note one key point or portion that would garner attention by the public.
Press release details:
Activity 2: Students will generate a media/press release using dates and venue assigned by the instructor (above). Creative writing and fluidity of point are essential keeping in mind the target audience (see attached samples).
Activity 3: Students will research media outlets and contacts for the area in which the venue is located. These contacts will be recorded and written at the top of the media/press release.
Activity 4: Students will generate a poster for the show based upon the point or portion that was identified in Activity 1.

Activities for MOST students:
Most students will do the above and add a newspaper ad graphic after researching the column width of the paper in which they wish to advertise.

Activities for SOME students:
Some students will do all of the above and also research prices for advertising as well as generate an ad form for donors to contribute to the production

- Dates: November 28, 29, 30
- Times: 7:00 Friday and Saturday. 2:00 Saturday and Sunday
- Ticket prices: $10 general, $5 Student/Senior
